“I thought I was in trouble.”
Lee Jung-yong (LG Twins) pitched ⅔ of an inning in relief in the bottom of the ninth to earn the save in Game 3 of the Korean Series of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League postseason against the KT Wiz at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea, on Tuesday.
Trailing 5-7, LG made a dramatic comeback in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Austin Dean drew a walk. He was followed by Oh Ji-hwan at the plate. After reaching on an error in the bottom of the fifth inning, Oh made amends for his mistake perfectly. He hit a three-run home run off Kim Jae-yoon to put the game out of reach.
In the bottom of the ninth, LG brought up Go Woo-seok, who had been on the mound since the eighth inning. However, Go started to falter. He struck out leadoff hitter Anthony Alford, but walked pinch-hitter Kim Jun-tae with a pitch to the body. Jung Jun-young followed with a single to left field. Moon Sung-joo slid in to make the catch, but the ball hit his glove.
With runners on first and second, the LG dugout made a decision. Go Woo-seok was removed and Lee Jung-yong was brought in, but his start was shaky. He threw a wild pitch against the leadoff hitter, Choi Byeong-dae, and both runners advanced to second and third. He then opted to send Choi into an automatic double play.
He chose to face Kim Sang-soo. Lee threw a first-pitch strike against Kim Sang-soo. He then chose a slider for the second pitch, which was taken by Kim Sang-soo. However, the pitcher caught the grounder and fired it home. He then threw to first base for a double play after Park Dong-won stepped on home plate. It was the moment LG sealed the dramatic 8-7 victory.
“Even with the sacrifice fly, it was tied, so I trusted my players,” said Lee Jung-yong after the game. “They were hitting so well that I thought they would only give up one run, but I still wanted to stop them, and I was happy with the result.” 토토사이트
Lee Jung-yong admitted that he hadn’t realized that Kim Sang-soo’s hit would come to him at all. “I actually thought I was in trouble (after catching the ball),” he said. ”Of course, (Park) Dong-won told me to throw home if my brother throws a ground ball to the pitcher, but I was a little confident in my defense…I think I had a good experience today,” he said.
“I didn’t realize it until I caught it, but when I threw it to home, I threw it while saying please. ”I didn’t realize it until I caught it, but when I threw it home, I threw it with a please,” he said, adding, “I didn’t look confident in the slow motion. I just wanted to be accurate. I’m glad it went well.
