Korea men’s handball loses to Qatar in Olympic qualifier…Park Kwang-soon scores 5 goals

The South Korean men’s handball team, looking to qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time in 12 years, suffered its first loss in the Asian Regional Qualifier after three straight victories.

South Korea fell 25-39 to Qatar in the fourth match of Group A at the Asian Men’s Handball Qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday (July 23).

With a 3-1 record, Korea is tied for second place in the group with Saudi Arabia.

The Koreans were led by Park Kwang-soon (Hanam City Hall) with five goals on the day, but were unable to break through the barrier of Asia’s strongest team, Qatar, who won their third straight title at the Hangzhou Asian Games earlier this month.메이저사이트

The 11-nation tournament is divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals.

South Korea will play its final group game on Thursday against China (1-3), while Saudi Arabia has a game left against Qatar (4), so if South Korea beats China, it will likely finish second in the group and advance to the quarterfinals.

The winner of the tournament earns a ticket to the Olympic Games, while the runner-up advances to the final qualifier in March 2024, which is a tournament for countries that did not qualify by continent.

South Korea’s men’s handball team qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games, but failed to qualify for Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2021.
