“We will take a strong response to the press releases and YouTubers that have been maliciously written and distributed about Kim Yeon-kyung, including the recent article by The Spike,” Kim’s management company, RyanAt, said in a press release on the 16th. “We will not be conducting any interviews with the media unless they follow up on the article,” the organization added.

On April 14, volleyball media outlet The Spike published an interview with Lee Jae-young. Recalling the 2020-2021 season during her time with Heungkuk Life, Lee claimed, “During the game, ‘that player’ openly swore at Lee Da-young, calling her ‘XX’.” Lee is Lee Jae-young’s twin sister, and they played together for Heungkuk Life at the time. Although she did not reveal her name, “the player” is believed to be Kim Yeon-kyung.

Earlier, Lee also mentioned Kim Yeon-kyung in an interview with reporters before she left for the French league on May 5. “The controversy with Player A was true,” Lee revealed, “I would rather ask her why she did that. She never hit the ball I put up, and there were problems like that.” Player A is Kim Yeon-kyung.

Throughout the process, Lee Jae-young’s fan club also spoke out. In a statement distributed to the volleyball press corps, Jae Young Time said, “Things went awry because the wrong club was involved in the resolution of this case,” and claimed, “It started with Lee Da-young and Kim Yeon-kyung’s personal problems, and even Lee Jae-young was damaged.”

“Heungkuk Life should recognize and take responsibility for the unjust acts inflicted on Lee Jae-young,” Jae Young Time demanded. “We can’t help but be outraged by the initial response of Heungkuk Life, which took advantage of its position as an employer to force a handwritten apology at the beginning of the incident and later prevented media contact and activities, depriving Lee Jae-young of the opportunity to make a timely explanation and creating the image of reversing its apology.”

“We demand that the Korean Volleyball Association rescind the disciplinary action against Lee Jae-young,” Jae Young Time said. Lee Jae-young and Lee Da-young have been suspended from the national team due to a bullying controversy. “We will actively respond to the malicious slander and media reports about Lee Jae-young,” Jae Young Time continued.

Kim Yeon-kyung’s camp also responded. “We will take legal action against YouTubers and malicious comments that continue to distribute malicious falsehoods,” RyanAt said, emphasizing that there will be no exoneration or settlement in any case. “Since 2020, we have been collecting data on malicious comments and posts containing falsehoods, defamation, sexual harassment, and personal attacks against our athletes through our legal representatives and are in the process of filing lawsuits.”

Kim Yeon-kyung, Lee Jae-young, and Lee Da-young played together for Heungkuk Life in the 2020-2021 season. However, during the season, rumors of team discord surfaced and the twin sisters were released from Heungkuk Life following revelations of school violence. While excluded from the national team, Lee and Lee played in overseas leagues.
