The 39th edition of the Shinhan Donghae Open, the only major series in Asia to be co-hosted by three tours, is expected to feature leading players from each tour.
Shinhan Financial Group, the tournament’s organizer, announced on Saturday that Kim Sung-hyun, who plays on the U.S. Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour, and Korean Tour stars Park Sang-hyun and Kim Kyung-tae, as well as Japan’s popular handsome Ryo Ishikawa and money leader Keita Nakajima, will compete in the Shinhan Donghae Open.
The tournament, now in its 39th year, will be held at Golf 72 Ocean Course on Yeongjongdo Island for four days starting Sept. 7. It will be broadcast by JTBC Golf, which continues its coverage of the men’s major series in Korea, including the GS Caltex Open, SK Telecom Open, and the Kolon Korea Open. The venue has excellent accessibility, and hole-in-one prizes include a Porsche. In addition, there are many box office elements for the competitors.
With a total prize fund of 1.4 billion won, it is the only tournament in Asia to be co-hosted by three organizations, including the Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, the Asian Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour (JGTO). The tournament has been internationalized since its inception in 1981, and since 2019, the tournament has been expanded to include all three tours and is recognized as a tournament to determine the strongest players in Asia.
