Nemanja Matic has left AS Roma.
“Matić is now a Rennes player,” Stade Rennes announced on the club’s website on Friday. “I feel very welcome at Rennes. The project they proposed was good and they have a lot of talented players. I can’t wait to play,” he said on joining the club.
Matić is a Serbian defensive midfielder. He joined Chelsea in 2009 after playing for Serbia. He was brought in because of his potential, but he didn’t get many chances. In 2011, he went to Benfica for a chance. During his three years at Benfica, he became one of the most prominent midfielders in Europe. He was highly regarded for his good physicality, good defense, and excellent passing ability.
Back to Chelsea. When he returned to Chelsea in 2014, he became an integral part of the midfield. He helped the Blues win the English Premier League (EPL) in 2014-15 and 2016-17. He played consistently for Chelsea, showing clear advantages. But when his playing time dwindled, he moved to Manchester United. At United, he made an impact in the middle of the park.
A presence in both midfield and defense, Martial spent five years at United. In 2022, he moved to Roma under Jose Mourinho. After his time at Roma, Martial found a new home in Rennes. It is the first time in his career that he has played in the French Ligue 1.
President Olivier Kloarek said: “A world-class player joins us. It’s a signing that shows the attractiveness and ambition of Rennes. Matić is a top defensive midfielder. He has played around 600 games at the highest level. He will be an inspiration for our young players. I can’t wait to see him play at Roazon Park (Rennes’ home).”먹튀검증
Director Florian Maurice added: “We are very happy with the arrival of Matić. It’s a great signing for the development of the team. His experience is incredible. He is a complete and highly intelligent midfielder who can control the tempo and rhythm of the game. He is a humble but ambitious player who will be an inspiration to the younger players. We’ve been in talks for over a month to sign him. He knows Rennes very well,” said the club’s president.
